Household information

Every household uses water differently. Accurate household and tariff information will provide a more meaningful estimate and help you understand your household’s water use and potential cost.

Municipality not listed? If your municipality is not listed above, refer to your municipal invoice and enter the applicable water tariff, or use your own estimated rate.

Personal hygiene habits have a major influence on daily household water use. Shorter showers, shallower baths and efficient toilet flushing can reduce consumption without compromising hygiene.

Appliances and kitchen activities can use substantial amounts of water over time. Run full washing-machine and dishwasher loads, choose efficient appliances and avoid washing dishes under a continuously running tap.

Outdoor water use can increase quickly, particularly during hot and dry weather. Water gardens during cooler periods, cover swimming pools and use a bucket rather than a running hose when washing vehicles.

Water losses can account for a significant proportion of household water consumption. Even a small leak can waste thousands of litres each month.
